
Baltic Master II is an international project which aims to improve maritime safety by integrating local and regional perspectives. The focus is on the Baltic Sea Region and issues concerning pollution prevention, coastal zone management and on land response capacity to an oil spill at sea. The project continues where the previous project Baltic Master ended. The previous project pointed out important needed action that Baltic Master II will work on.
Baltic Master II - flagship project
The EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region is now published. In the enclosed action plan, Baltic Master II is mentioned as a flagship project i.e. a project with high significance.
Baltic Master II is mentioned in the strategy regarding the subject improvement of waste handling on board and in ports:
“Improve the waste handling on board and in ports within the framework of Baltic Master II project through better involvement of different actors, i.e. coastal municipalities and ports together with national authorities, research institutes, universities and pan-Baltic organisations and finding practical solutions to improve waste handling.". EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, Action plan (p 19).
Moreover, Baltic Master II is mentioned as one of several projects dealing with on-land response.
