Improved land-based response capacity to oil spills at sea (WP 3)

Adequate and updated response resources are essential to minimize the damage and cost that an oil accident at sea can cause.

WP 3 aims to improve response work and oil contingency planning in municipalities and regions in the BSR. By developing contingency plans, linking them to coastal management and finally exercising them jointly across administrative borders the response work can be more effective and improved. Integration of coastal management in contingency planning will also ensure involvement of the many actors who are present in an emergency situation.

Major activities and outcomes of WP 3:

  • Oil contingency plans; developed, updated and tested in a scenario exercise
  • Updated coastal management tool “Environmental Atlas”
  • Guidelines on how to integrate contingency planning in coastal management
